Would You...?
Have you ever wondered…
Why my eyes are so sad?
Why my body is so thin like glass?
Have you ever seen me smile?
Laugh?
Or even shed a tear?
A growl, a few shown ribs,
My tummy is hungry.
Why my eyes are so sad?
Why my body is so thin like glass?
Have you ever seen me smile?
Laugh?
Or even shed a tear?
A growl, a few shown ribs,
My tummy is hungry.
I cry myself to sleep,
Day in and day out,
Wondering when my next meal will come…if…it will come…
Day in and day out,
Wondering when my next meal will come…if…it will come…
There is no food,
The water is unsafe,
Everywhere around me there is pain.
The water is unsafe,
Everywhere around me there is pain.
Do you even care?
About the 13,000 children that die every day?
What if I’m next?
Would you even blink?
About the 13,000 children that die every day?
What if I’m next?
Would you even blink?
I am so hungry I can eat the whole world,
People and all,
Except I would leave some… the ones that care,
People and all,
Except I would leave some… the ones that care,
They sponsored a few,
I actually knew a person who got fed daily,
God why didn’t you bless me?
If I said ‘please’ would you give?
If I begged would you listen?
If I died
Would you even care?
If I begged would you listen?
If I died
Would you even care?

I really enjoyed reading this poem! The language of the poem that was used was strong. I like how you had the poem through the perspective of the child and how you had the child ask questions through out the poem, that was very powerful too. I really enjoyed reading this poem :)
ReplyDeleteI really loved several things about this poem. One being the tone and diction you used that made the poem even more meaningful. Since this poem is from a child perspective, it allows the reader to build a connection with the child. I liked that the lines were short making it more to the point and engaging. I also enjoyed that the narrator was asking questions to the reader keeping the reader more alert and engaged. Great Job!
